CLASS

  • Title Sequence Pitch

Concept storyboard for the main titles sequence for the BBC Three show Class.

I was brought in by the guys over at Huge Designs to help out designing style frames for the new show by BBC Three called "Class" which is a highly anticipated spin-off show from Doctor Who. Featuring a new set of characters that are based at the Coal Hill School, which was featured in the very first Doctor Who episode, a rip in time and space has opened up at the school and we follow a band of misfit students and their unlikeable teacher coping with this unwelcomed intrusions.

My idea for the title sequence was to follow these unlikely heroes as they make their way through the city to the Coal Hill School. This would allow me to introduce us to all the character and their unique personalilties as well as introduce London as their home. As they are all travelling through the city we would see tears in time and space appear in the background, as well as weird and eeriely looking characters in the background such as someones eyes glowing violently or a shadow reaching out to touch someone. This finally lead us to see our group of heroes outside the school before the rip in time and space would suck everything into the void to reveal the title.

The sequence would of incorporated a number of different techniques, using either still or footage of the main cast, which would of been processed to give them poster/graffitti look to them. The sets that they would of inhabited would of been created stills of real location in London such as Shoreditch and would then of been layered in After Effects or modelled in Cinema 4D. Then elements such as the graffitti on the walls and the aliens that inhabit the location would use a combination of traditional 2d animation and vector animation techniques. The sequence would of been quite energetic with the camera always moving and rotating, and would of included a number of dynamic transitions to move the sequence along
